This South Charleston family session was everything introduced me to a new love for fall portraits — soft evening light, genuine laughter, and a family who brought all the love (and a few wagging tails!) to the shoot.
This family's property backs up against Little Creek Golf Course. With its rolling greens, tree-lined fairways, and views that glow in the late afternoon sun, it was the perfect backdrop for a relaxed and natural family session.
A Family Session Full of Heart
From the start, this session was full of laughter and energy, and a little chaos! Their three dogs, Marley, Mocha and Latte, stole the show and were right in the middle of the fun — tails wagging, tongues out, stealing the spotlight every chance they got.
Some of my favorite images came from those in-between moments: the kids giggling as they tried to get all three pups to sit still, and the way the whole family fit together so effortlessly.
As the sun dipped low over the course, the light turned golden and dreamy — that perfect “golden hour” glow that makes everything feel warm and peaceful. The greens of the course shimmered, and the soft breeze made the whole scene come alive. It was the perfect way to end a fall evening in South Charleston.
Why I Love Sessions Like This
Family sessions that include your dogs are always a little unpredictable — but that’s what makes them so genuine. They capture the beautiful, real chaos that makes your family yours.
Thank you to the Belcher family for such a fun evening — for your laughter, your love, and for letting me tell your story against one of South Charleston’s most beautiful backdrops.
